I don't even know what to say.

Let it be known that, I do not consider myself to be inept in the kitchen. I feel that I can hold my own. New recipes do not scare me. I actually volunteer to teach a high school boys class how to cook! The pictures that I am about to post will totally belie the information that I have just shared with you.
First of all, I saw this recipe on another blog, it sounded good, she's mentioned foods in the past and seems to be a big fan of the stuff, so when she said this was a GOOD pound cake and even posted the recipe to prove it, I figured she had to know what she was talking about. Plus she's from the south, and well, it has been my experience that every good southern girl knows how to make dessert!

Let me begin with, the girl was in a wonderful mood, she had slept until 1pm; allowing me ample time on the computer, which always makes me happy. However, I did not feel so great, I had a slight headache and my stomach was not happy. (It still feels kind of 'off' today too.) But I was going to push on!
I plopped the girl in her (new!) highchair, and got myself ready to bake.
Here is my helper:
(Also known as Superbaby, b/c she tends to wear her bib as a cape)

Isn't that the coolest highchair EVER? I mean, COME ON! It's ORANGE!!!!

Got my butter, shortening, and sugar in the mixer; they are creaming together nicely.

Still no trouble from the girl, so I carried on.
Got the batter finished up, (with a few deviations from the recipe b/c sometimes I am just too far ahead of myself, just don't tell BooMama's Mama that I didn't stir in the baking powder w/a fork [gasp!] AND I totally forgot about the milk until the very end, so it went in last.) Poured the batter into the pan, now here is probably where I made my biggest error. The 'pan' was called a 'tube pan' in the original recipe, there was even a link to a website to show you what it looked like and/or to purchase one for yourself. I have a pan that looks A LOT like the one in the picture, so I figured I was good to go. I sprayed Baker's Joy (another deviation from 'THE RECIPE') on my 'tube pan', filled her up and set it in the oven. I should be good for almost an hour and a half. HOWEVER....
Not too long after, I smell 'a smell'. It was kinda good, like the wonderful aroma of a baking cake, but also kinda bad, like the smell of something burning. This continued for a few minutes before I decided to go check things out. This is what I found:

WHAT in the world????????????? How did that happen?????

Apparently there is a difference between a tube pan and an angel food cake pan. (Guess what I ordered from amazon this morning? yep, a tube pan.) *note the edit at bottom of post*
I persevered though, I yanked that puppy out of the oven, put it on a sheet pan and shoved it right back in! Of course, I cleaned up the spilled batter first. It was actually quite easy, see the burned smell I was smelling... yeah that was the batter actually burning, ya know, so it's all nice and crispy on the bottom. I just used a spatula and got it right up, just like a pancake!
After about 90 minutes in the oven, this is what I got.

and it was still yummy. C said that I should make that again 'real soon', without the mess up. He also didn't want to take a piece to work today b/c he said he felt bad b/c he couldn't share 'the yumminess' with everyone else. He did ask for me to make one the next time he has to bring breakfast in.

*****EDIT!
It was pointed out to me that in the reviews of the 'tube pan' it says it is in 2 pieces and leaks!
I cancelled my order. Guess I'll have to find one at BB&B.

In a pinch, you can also use a Bundt cake pan, although you get fluted top bits. :)
