I was cooking after church last night and C caught her with the oven mitt on her hand. Please note that neither one of us gave it to her, she got it out of the drawer herself AND she put it on by herself! The fact that she knows how to do this kind of stuff may explain why I've put on a few pounds lately.

The Next Foodnetwork Star!
Not me of course, but The Girl thinks it could be her!

I've got some work to do.
The word cultivate has been going through my head lately. I was pretty sure I knew what it meant, but decided to look it up anyway. Dictionary(dot)com lists the following: (bold emphasis is mine)cul⋅ti⋅vate [kuhl-tuh-veyt]
–verb (used with object), -vat⋅ed, -vat⋅ing.
1. to prepare and work on (land) in order to raise crops; till.
2. to use a cultivator on.
3. to promote or improve the growth of (a plant, crop, etc.) by labor and attention.
4. to produce by culture: to cultivate a strain of bacteria.
5. to develop or improve by education or training; train; refine.
6. to promote the growth or development of (an art, science, etc.); foster.
7. to devote oneself to (an art, science, etc.).
8. to seek to promote or foster (friendship, love, etc.).
9. to seek the acquaintance or friendship of (a person).
It seems to me that the definition lends itself to more use in relationships than in farming. It has been weighing on me for some time now, that because of the 'busyness of life' that I have allowed myself to become consumed with, I have let some friendships fall to the side hoping that the other person in the relationship would be ok w/ picking things up from where we had left off when I was not so busy. I mean I haven't even taken time to send emails anymore!!! (TSK! TSK! TSK!) This may have been the same way for them and for a time we (may) have been totally okay with this format; recently I've decided that's not how I want things to be. Don't get me wrong, I do understand that there are things that we all need to do; however I also know that in everyone of us we have a place inside where we have the need for friends or we will just go crazy. I don't always need to have hours upon hours devoted to one person, I'm not looking to become a stalker, but I do have the need to have an occasional lunch with a friend and chat or perhaps enjoy a :insert beverage of choice here: together.
This all may be the ramblings of a lonely stay at home mom; or it may be a nudge from God that this is something He wants to see me do. I just might reach out to a friend gone by and change their life. (Its the simple things, ya know?)
So my new goal is this: to acknowledge my friends. (HI!) Either by an email, a card, a phone call and if they don't answer, I will ACTUALLY LEAVE A VOICE MAIL! (gasp!)

Gosh what have we been up to???
The 5th anniversary of THE DAY has come and gone; I was extremely busy that day and into the weekend so I didn't take much time to focus on it. That could be a good thing.
Valentine's day we had a date and I wanted to get a new sink for our half bath downstairs (romantic, I know)... its a long story, but the short of it is that a previous owner 'fixed' a leak in the sink with DUCT TAPE!!!! I took pix of the old stuff and will post pix of the new once the mirror is cut down to fit. The new sink/countertop has a backsplash and the previous sink and countertop did not, thus making the mirror no longer fit under the light fixture. Plus I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new faucet! So way totally cool! :)
The other night, the 3 of us were in the family room hanging out, the girl has privledges that allow her to wander into the sunroom seeing as how that is gradually turning more into her playroom than 'the dogs room'. She has a tv/vcr/dvd player, a cd player w/a radio, a ballpit, and our newest accquisition... a train table and some tracks and trains (I LOVE CRAIGSLIST!) right now I think her mom and dad enjoy it more than she does, but I'm sure she'll grow into it. ;) ANYWAY... she was quiet and it was the kind of quiet that you go check out... so I got up and saw her in the hallway by the bathroom door, with her diaper on the floor next to her!!!! So we played the oh you wanna use the potty? game for a bit then we went to the store and bought her a seat of her own! I am sooooo not ready for this and she isn't really, but I wasn't about to discourage her in any way shape or form that's for sure!
C and I just had our 12 year wedding anniversary. For the record, I got married when I was 12. ;) The girl spent the night w/ some very good friends and C and I got to have a 27 hour date. We really enjoyed just hanging out and relaxing together. We got a couples massage and that was awesome! I see more of those in our future! ;)
Well, I'm pooped and I've got a few more loads of laundry to get done before I crash for the night...

an update on The Girl
Right now, The Girl can sign: more, please, finished, cracker, cookie, daddy, mommy, giraffe, book and cheese. Her first sign was 'more' at 8 months old. She shakes her head for no and nods for yes. The words that she actually speaks is mom, dad, 'ydney' wow, thank you, and 'Jogee' that is for our little dog, Josie, but she won't say Duke for the other dog. She also pats her leg when she calls 'Jogee', like she's calling her in or something. She knows a TON of animal sounds too... (I'll list them for you b/c some of them are funny.)
Dog: woof
Cat: meow
snake: sssssss
cow: moo
turtle: duuuude
sheep: hahahahaha (she laughs at it, I guess she thought we were laughing when we were doing it.)
fish: glub glub glub
Beatle: yeah yeah yeah (soooo fun!:D)
lion: roar
gorilla: ahhhhh (and she pounds her chest while doing it)
hippo: doesn't make a sound but she wiggles her hands on the top of her head like hippo ears
monkey: ooo ooo and one arm tucks up under her armpit
duck: quack quack
chicken: cluck cluck
bird: tweet tweet
crocodile: chomp and she claps her arms out in front of her
Ok, that's all I can think of right now...
